✅👨‍🏫 ExamSimulator: The Teacher Dashboard

A step-by-step guide to using all elements of the dashboard

Why do we need the dashboard?

For teachers, it is crucial to be able to identify areas for improvement in students' knowledge, either for an individual student or for spotting patterns and potential 'gaps' in knowledge across a group. It also allows teachers to easily check assignment completion and keeps a record of progress.

Where do I find the dashboard?

TOP TIPS Using the dashboard (X)

Don't forget to enter your group details in the filter bar at the top:

  • Subject
  • Qualification
  • Group
  • Course

What does each one show?

Live data: This shows the data pulled from students watching the video tutorials, answering questions in the practice quizzing, test quizzing or in the checkpoints. The data comes from both them choosing to access these sections as well as from any assignments set.

Exam data: (for silver or gold subscriptions only): This shows the data pulled through from any exam set, whether it is a practice, assessed or a written exam. See this article here for more details on viewing exam data as a detailed breakdown of exam questions.

Practice and assessed exam data will appear automatically when marked online. However, if your students have completed an exam on paper (printed) and you would like the data to appear here, you will need to enter the marks per question manually. See this article here for how to mark a printable exam and enter marks

Checkpoints: This data shows how well students are performing across the different checkpoints. The data includes checkpoint results that students have done as independent study and as part of an assignment. The percentage displayed is the highest of all attempts.

Assignments: This data shows how the students are performing across all assignments set. See this article for an overview of how to set assignments.

How do I use data effectively?

  • To identify students struggling by seeing their data appear in red/yellow and use it for one-to-one intervention purposes.
  • To reset work for individuals who are struggling or haven't completed assignments.
  • To see data trends across the class so you can prioritise revision programmes or interleaved topics that are less secure,
  • To use as a department review tool and identify potential weaker areas across the course.
  • For Ofsted, to show consistency across the department in tracking and monitoring student progress.
  • To save teachers from having to make students aware of their progress. Students can see their own data on their own dashboard.
  • To share with parents are parents' evenings or progress meetings.
  • To inform your future planning.
  • To reflect on how effective your teaching has been of that topic, or how effectively the quizzes and videos have been used to get info to 'stick'.

Useful tips:

  • Filter by specific students - Filter the dashboard to only view students flagged as belonging to a particular subcategory (PP, SEN, EAL, FSM, LAC, MLD, G&T, BME)

See this article on how to manage students and as well as flagging a student as belonging to a particular subcategory.

  • Parents' evening mode - View the dashboard with only one student's data. This is great for meetings with specific students and/or parents and avoiding any GDPR mishaps.

TOP TIPS Using the dashboard (X)-1

  • Pin filters - Staff can now pin up to five dashboard views to easily access them again, rather than completing all the filters each time.
    Pinned filters
  • Transfer to a spreadsheet - Staff can download the Live Data into a spreadsheet by selecting the green button in the top right-hand corner of the key.
Please note, that as soon as the data is downloaded, it stops being a dynamic reflection of students' data but rather an analysis of a set timeframe. filters
