👨‍🏫 ExamSimulator: How to mark a printable exam

In this article we look at how to mark an exam that has been set as a printable exam via ExamSimulator.

Why do we need to do this?

Marking a 'printable' exam via ExamSimulator allows a teacher to provide detailed feedback to their students for an exam that they have completed on paper (see here for how to mark an online exam), as well as syncing the data into the data dashboard. Marking the exam through ExamSimulator provides detailed feedback for the student and their teacher, breaking down their marks by question, topic area and skill area.

What comes before?

You must be a Teacher, HoD or Admin on the site. A group you teach must have been set a 'printable' exam assignment. This exam could have been set by yourself, another teacher in the group, a 'HoD' or 'Admin' on the site. See here for how to set a 'printable exam'

Marking the exam

  1. Login to your account and click on the 'Assignments/Exam' button at the top of your page.
  2. Click on the 'Exams' tab.
  3. Click on 'Past exams'.
  4. Select 'Not marked'.
  5. Find the 'printable' exam you wish to mark (these are in red/pink) and click to open the assignment.
  6. Here you will find the mark scheme by clicking on the printer symbol. Click 'Print mark scheme' to download it.
  7. Use the mark scheme to manually mark your students' papers.
  8. Once the papers are marked, you can input the marks for each student by clicking on 'Enter marks' to the right of their name in the assignment view. This will open up a panel in which you can enter the marks per question. Once these have been entered, click 'Release Exam' to release the breakdown of marks to the student.
  9. See this article here for how feedback is displayed to both the teacher and the student.
  10. The students' exam will now appear in both the teacher and student data dashboards.
